Italian

Italian lessons at Fernhurst Hub

Buongiorno a tutti!

Whether it is because of TV’s Montalbano or a general love of Tuscany (and its wine), our Italian classes are very popular.

The Hub offers Italian lessons in small groups at two Beginner levels, complete beginner one and beginner two for those with a bit of simple tourist Italian or more. While learning the building blocks of the language (grammar, greetings and introductions), you will practise reading and listening to Italian and learn to construct simple conversational sentences.

Cecile is French but has studied and obtained a Masters in Italian Culture and Civilization. She has lived and travelled extensively in Italy.

Lessons are designed with an emphasis on fun but follow a planned scheme that progresses through the term. Each lesson is followed up by an email containing the lesson content and some exercises to complete at home.

French

Bonjour!

Whatever your standard of French, we can find a class for you. The Hub currently provides courses for students at Beginner, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced (with conversation) levels.

Based on your standard, assessed via phone or face-to-face, you will receive a grounding in French grammar, improve your reading and listening skills and put them into practice with lots of exercises and conversation within the lesson. As the group levels advance, the focus shifts slightly from grammar to conversation.

Cecile, your French tutor, has lived in the UK for 14 years. She is passionate about the French language and culture and her enthusiasm is infectious.

Expect some homework and lots of fun. Each lesson is followed up by an email containing the lesson content and some exercises to complete at home. Cecile is also always happy to have one-to-one follow ups to clarify any points not fully grasped during the lesson.

  • At last I have found the perfect Spanish teacher! As a language graduate I have been searching for someone who is able to give me the building blocks for a different language. Claudia prepares well for our lessons and covers the necessary grammar as well as informing us about the culture of Spanish-speaking countries through dialogue and short videos. I can highly recommend her classes."

Language & Culture Club

Fernhurst Hub Language & Culture Club

Our foreign language classes are complemented by inclusive membership of the Hub’s Language and Culture Club (LCC).

The LCC hosts films nights, with a date per term for a foreign language film in each language. These evenings are enjoyable social occasions with an introduction and explanation about the film from the language tutor and a chance to discuss the film both at the time and in subsequent lessons. See the What’s On section for details of upcoming foreign language film listings.

Friends and partners of language students or anyone wishing to watch foreign language films may join the LCC as a Social member for a termly fee of £7.50 or £15 for a year. Students and social members are able to view the film in their chosen language and, subject to availability, may attend films in other languages.

Other cultural events and social occasions will be scheduled by the LCC from time to time to broaden the knowledge and appreciation of the countries associated with the individual languages being taught.
